  • Wall Street veteran Peter Goodson, former partner of private equity firm Clayton & Dubilier, Inc., who teaches Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Sara Beckman, who managed technology initiatives at Hewlett Packard and pioneered courses incorporating design thinking at Berkeley-Haas, including Managing the New Product Design Process and Problem Finding, Problem Solving.
  • Steve Blank, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who retired after spending 21 years in eight high-technology firms, and whose Berkeley MBA class, Lean LaunchPad, received accolades from Fortune magazine
  • Marketing consultant and trainer Lynn Upshaw, whose Marketing and Strategic Brand Management courses are informed by his work with clients such as Bank of America, PayPal/eBay, Health Net, and SunPower.

From Fed Chair to Presidential Advisers, Haas Research Faculty Tapped for Government Roles

Since the school's founding in 1898, Berkeley's business school faculty members have made strong contributions to public service, from Fed Chair Janet Yellen to Presidential Advisor Laura Tyson:

  • In February 2014, Professor Emeritus Janet Yellen became the nation's 15th chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Yellen, a Haas faculty member from 1980 to 2006, previously served as vice chair of the Federal Reserve and president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco.
  • Carl Shapiro served as a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 2011 to 2012. He previously served as chief economist in the antitrust division of the US Department of Justice.
  • Laura Tyson was named to President Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Previously, Tyson served as the chair of the National Economic Council under President Clinton.
  • Michael Katz was deputy assistant attorney general for economic analysis in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and former chief economist at the Federal Communications Commission.
  • James Wilcox served as the chief economist at the Office of the Comptroller of Currency.
  • David Levine was senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisers.
